Baxter State Park

Baxter State Park is a 209,644-acre public wilderness area in northern Maine. Former Governor Percival Baxter gave the Park to the people of Maine with the mandate that it remain forever wild. Explore his park and his vision.


Volunteering is a great way to directly participate in the stewardship of the Park. From splitting wood to painting and maintaining trails, there’s something for everyone. Learn more about volunteer opportunities.

Bissell Brothers is helping to ‘Preserve and Protect’ Baxter State Park[June 17, 2019]

Bissell Brothers Brewing is now donating a percentage of sales of its Preserve and Protect beer to support Baxter State Park. The Portland-based brewery has pledged to contribute at least $5,000 annually to Friends of Baxter State Park in support of our work. Annual Meeting on April 6[April 1, 2019]

Please join us this Saturday, April 6 for a great spring tradition: the annual meeting of Friends of Baxter State Park. We'll have lots of hot coffee, good company, interesting speakers, and a delicious lunch at noon. All are welcome. Apply for the 2019 Baxter Youth Conservation Corps[February 5, 2019]

Friends is currently accepting applications for our 2019 Baxter Youth Conservation Corps (BYCC), with an application deadline of April 1. Second-annual BSP sign auction[November 20, 2018]

Have you ever wanted to own a piece of Baxter State Park history? Friends is currently holding its second-annual sign auction featuring retired Baxter State Park signs and other special items. This year’s auction includes 18 signs from favorite locations like Russell Pond, the Dudley Trail, Daicey Pond, and Roaring Brook. Most are trail signs, but a few had more specialized uses.
