Have you ever wanted to own a piece of Baxter State Park history? Friends is currently holding its second-annual sign auction featuring retired Baxter State Park signs and other special items.
This year’s auction includes 18 signs from favorite locations like Russell Pond, the Dudley Trail, Daicey Pond, and Roaring Brook. Most are trail signs, but a few had more specialized uses. One sign welcomed Appalachian Trail thru-hikers, and another served as an entrance sign for Baxter State Park.
The auction also includes a very special item: the terrain model of Katahdin from Roaring Brook. This terrain model was installed on the porch of the Ranger station, and was used by hundreds of thousands of hikers over the past several decades to plan their climbs of Katahdin. It was taken out of service last year when Friends donated nine new 3D terrain models to the Park, including a new Katahdin model for Roaring Brook.
Friends will donate half of the auction proceeds directly to Baxter State Park, and the remaining proceeds will go to support Friends programs. Bidding closes on December 5 at midnight. The auction is entirely online and may be accessed at www.32auctions.com/fbsp2018.
